Mavu Sports Development Donates To our Girls

Mavu Sports development donation to Blue Birds Ladies FC.

Christmas arrived early for the players of Blue Birds Ladies FC as they received a donation from MAVU SPORTS DEVELOPMENT.  What started as a plea and request by our players during a video clip that was played at the Blue Birds gala dinner has now became a reality. Mr Bram from Mavu listened to the outcry of the players and promised to donate tracksuits and soccer boots.

Yesterday, the 28th August, in woman’s month they came to our training venue, Altreck Sports Center/ Football For Hope Center with bags full of soccer boots and tracksuits.  The donations were led by Bram in presence of the leadership team from Mavu Sports development which included Miss Lydia Monyepao, a former Banyana Banyana player and Chairperson of Mavu.

She began by giving a motivational talk to the players. In her words she said “This donation shows Mavu's commitment to assist in access to sport and empowerment of women in sport. We know that many of our girls in the townships and in rural areas struggle with access to playing equipment as basic as soccer boots, so this is a positive step in ensuring that we close small gaps wherever we can thanks to the partnerships we have with our friends in the Netherlands. I hope the equipment will increase the players' confidence and determination to become the best, and also boost their morale. They must be unapologetic about owning better boots and tracksuits than the boys #womenRock #unapologetic.

One of the players that was part of the video clip that touched the heart of Mavu Sports development to donate this in her excitement also commentated, “it was really exciting and inspiring to see people being able to donate tracksuits and soccer boots for us. It has always been a need in the club to have soccer boots for some of the players that don't have. So we would like to thank them again for everything that they have done for us” said Sihle Mguni.

The players will now have tracksuits and soccer boots to assist their development. These are the outcomes of the gala dinner that the club organized for such purposes. The club is grateful for the donation that was received. Bram from Mavu also added by saying “We as Mavu are extremely enthusiastic on the way sport has instilled so many positive life skills on many of the girls involved in Blue Birds. As one of the only ladies clubs in the entire country which has 5 different divisions, we are honored to have been able to support this club with a donation.

However, the donation is a start of a greater support structure as we are looking at forming a structural club link with a ladies football club in The Netherlands. Mavu Thanks Kicks4Africa and initiator Stan Benneker for their continuous efforts of donating soccer boots and equipment to Mavu, so that we can support great initiatives like Blue Birds Football Club (academy.”
